Neon Signs

What is Neon

Neon illuminated signs are created by bending glass tubes into letter forms and then sealing in an inert gas such as neon at low pressure with an electrode..

High voltage (by stepping up through a transformer) is applied and the gas glows. Neon and Argon are the most commonly used gases although Krypton, Xenon and Helium are also used for more specialised purposes.

They require specialists to fabricate as each letter has to be shaped. They are also not as simple to install as LEDs.

What size Neon Lights can you have?

Size is not an issue and enormous neon signs can be fabricated if necessary. As can can be seen in any major city, for example London's Piccadilly Circus has some hugh neon signs.

Are Neon Lights expensive?

They are moderately expensive, the reason being that as mentioned above, each letter form has to be bent into shape. This makes fabrication labour intensive and this is where the costs accumulate.

However, it is our opinion that the kind of light that is produced is aesthetically better than LEDs or any other form of cathode type illumination.
